FUJAIRAH, 7th May, 2025 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, reaffirmed the emirate's leading global status in attracting investment projects in the mining and sustainable industries sectors, and its role in supporting the national economy at the state level.
This came during the inauguration of the Apex Chemical Industries factory, the first integrated facility in the Emirate, specialized in the production of ground calcium carbonate. The event was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Body Building and Fitness Federation, and several local officials.
H.H. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the Fujairah Government's commitment, under the guidance and follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, to developing high-quality economic projects.
"These efforts aim to support the local economy and solidify Fujairah's position as an attractive industrial destination that contributes to advancing sustainable development in the mining and manufacturing sectors both locally and globally," he added.
Apex Chemical Industries highlighted Fujairah's distinction as an investment hub that attracts major companies and projects. It attributed this to the emirate's rich natural resources and the facilitation and support provided by the Fujairah Government for developmental projects in the mining and manufacturing sectors. It noted that the factory was established strategically to meet the growing demand in the UAE for basic industrial materials by reducing reliance on imports and leveraging Fujairah's abundant natural resources.
The Apex factory includes a specialized unit for producing construction-related chemicals and advanced building solutions aligned with the infrastructure sector's needs in the UAE. This initiative represents a qualitative step toward achieving industrial self-sufficiency and enhancing resource efficiency.
Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, Chairman of the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, said that the opening of the Apex Chemical Industries factory is an important step reflecting the Corporation's commitment to optimizing the use of natural resources under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi and the follow-up of the Crown Prince.
He noted that the Corporation's strategic plans support the future of this vital sector and its role in achieving sustainable development goals and economic growth through supporting innovative industrial solutions and creating new markets to reinforce Fujairah's position as a model destination supporting the local and green economy.
Ali Qassim, Director-General of the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, stated that the factory will meet the needs of both local and global markets. Calcium carbonate, he explained, is a fundamental material with multiple technical and practical properties, making it ideal for use in a wide range of industries. He emphasized that the factory is a significant addition to the mining and chemical industries sector in Fujairah.
He expressed hope that this project will be a launching point for more industrial ventures that contribute to sustainable development and enhance Fujairah's status as an advanced industrial region.
The facility spans an area of 7,700 square meters in the Thoban area and boasts an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons, divided into two phases. Its importance lies not only in being the first of its kind in the emirate but also in being a pioneering and sustainable project that operates its production lines using electricity, ensuring compliance with global environmental standards.
