FUJAIRAH, 23rd February, 2018 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, today opened the Maktoum Al Sharqi Falcon Championship, Telwah, at Celebrations Square in Fujairah.
Organised and supervised by the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Centre, HHC, in collaboration with the Fujairah Sports and Culture Club, the competition will see the participation of 300 falcons in various categories and events.
H.H. praised the efforts of the organisers of the tournament and their keenness on its success by confirming the UAE's leading role in hosting the most prestigious tournaments in the region.
Suad Ibrahim Darwish, Director of Championships at HHC, said the presence of the Crown Prince of Fujairah and Sheikh Maktoum Al Sharqi, has affirmed the stature of the Maktoum Al Sharqi Falcon Championship and given the participants an additional boost and motivation to excel in these competitions.
“HHC managed to supervise and organize the first championship in Ajman and now this is the second one in Fujairah - which saw a kick start with 300 falcons on the first day of championship. HHC is always willing to make this bridge with other emirates by providing their expertise in heritage sports such as falconry because in general this will realize the broader mission of the Centre. These championships will help reinforce the national identity among the youth and juniors, and it would help support UAE’s efforts to preserve national culture,” she said.
The first ten winners will share a cash prize of AED500,000.
Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Sports and Culture Club; Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, President of the Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation; Salem Al Zahmi, Director of the Fujairah Crown Prince's Office; Suad Ibrahim Darwwish, Director of Competitions at the HCC; and Brigadier Mohammed Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Championship’s Organising Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the two-day event.
